DEL member Eric Reynolds Brubaker together with his teammates Amy King and Nick Azpiroz representing Kukua Labs were recognized at the 2019 ASME Innovation Showcase (ISHOW) in Washington, DC for their award-winning design for at-home artificial chicken egg incubation. Designed to work in partnership with solar home system and minigrid companies, Kukua Labs' design provides stable growth of family income by supporting the raising of chickens in off-grid or "bad grid" households. Kukua Labs was one of eight finalists in the USA chosen from ~160 applicants. All of the finalists went through five rounds of design review-style interviews, and the judges awarded three winners — including Kukua Labs! Eric, Nick and Amy were awarded $10,000 with the possibility of an additional $40,000 in funding. Read more on the ASME website.
